ASEAN Friends Discover the Wonders of Henan

From May 24th to 29th, 2025, the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), in a joint effort with the China International Communications Group (CICG), co-sponsored a familiarization trip titled “Rediscovering Henan: The Ancient Roots with Modern Wings” across the enchanting landscapes of Henan Province, China.

More than 50 participants, including H.E. Kem Gunawadh, the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Information of Cambodia, H.E. Phan Tam, the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam, along with media representatives from ASEAN Member States (AMS) and diplomatic envoys of AMS in China, embarked on a series of visits to Zhengzhou, Luoyang, and Anyang in Henan Province. During these visits, they delved deep into Henan's rich historical and cultural tapestry, getting a first- hand taste of its profound heritage. Moreover, they were able to witness the remarkable and all-round achievements that Henan has made in economic and social development.

During their stay in Henan, the participants made their way to some of the region's leading and characteristic local enterprises, such as YTO Group, Anyang Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Industrial Park, and BYD Zhengzhou Factory. These visits served as a window into Henan's remarkable achievements in harnessing technological innovation to fuel the development of new quality productive forces. It also presented an opportunity for ASEAN guests to explore potential cooperation in sectors such as agricultural machinery manufacturing, 5G, and new energy between China and ASEAN.

A stop at the Yin Ruins Museum transported the visitors back in time, enabling them to immerse themselves in the profound depths of ancient Chinese history and culture. The visits to the Red Flag Canal and Miaohuang Village were equally impactful. Here, they witnessed the indomitable spirit of self - reliance and arduous struggle that defines the Chinese people. Moreover, they had the privilege of hearing first - hand accounts of China's poverty alleviation initiatives and rural revitalization efforts.

In addition, the delegation paid a visit to the Henan Broadcasting System. There, they engaged in in-depth dialogues with Chinese media representatives on the topic of innovative international communication. They also explored the headquarters of MIXUE Ice Cream & Tea, a well - known brand in ASEAN. This provided them with a glimpse into the unwavering dedication and relentless efforts of Chinese private enterprises.

Representatives of ASEAN media extensively covered the visit across various platforms, amassing over one million views and likes. Participants stated that Henan had successfully integrated modern development concepts with traditional history and culture to create a technology-driven, innovation-integrated development model offering profound inspiration to ASEAN countries. Through this visit, they gained clearer insights into “Why and how has China succeeded”. They pledged to share their observations to ASEAN countries in order to contribute to deeper mutual understanding and people-to-people connectivity between ASEAN and China.
